In a world where the aliens crash-landed more than a century ago and took over the world, humans are friendly, lovable mounts that carry the weak-legged Hoo's across this rough and high-gravity planet. They love humans, they take excellent care of their mounts, the have lots of treats, and they build a gracious and civilized society that our young protagonist, a full-bread Seattle named Smiley, knows will soon be gone with the wind.
