"Open source software" has become a religious topic, unsuitable for discussion over dinner, and it's been a long time since I've seen much intelligent writing on the subject. David Stultz recently left Microsoft after some years as its point-man in this arena, and his Advice to Microsoft regarding commodity software is superb.
