I suspect that the impact of book notes like DG's Virtual Book Club will come to have a big impact on the book world. The book world is small: getting a book in front of a few dozen receptive readers can really matter to a title (and to an author), and book audiences are eager for information they can use. Specialized, reliable, timely opinion, delivered promptly to a motivated audience: that's a recipe for weblog success. Oprah became an overwhelming force in trade publishing in the 90's; look for weblogs to supplant her role in the coming decade.
